As usual, Shlomit Moria sought her son Dean’s approval when she completed her latest T-shirt design. It didn’t quite pass muster. “Put a propeller on the robot’s head,” advised the pint-sized critic.
“He’s only four, but his advice is always great,” Shlomit says proudly. The gifted mother of two – daughter Zoe is 18 months old - also knows her stuff. Since she launched her children’s wear label Deezo in early 2009, it has won accounts Australia-wide, as well in New Zealand, Fiji and the UK.
“I’ve designed kidswear for years, starting with baby clothes in AFL colours and decided it was time to do a label of my own,” says Shlomit. “Deezo is full of what kids love most – lots of bright colour and fun.”
It can also boast originality, quality and comfort. Trained as a graphic designer, Shlomit has lavished her creative skills on Deezo’s dresses, tees, hoodies and boldly striped socks – sizes range from 6 months to age 7 – uses pure cotton and has concentrated on easy-dressing features such as extra-wide necks for tees.
“My husband Ido looks after marketing and sales,” says the designer. Home for the Moria family is Warburton in Victoria’s upper Yarra Valley. Shlomit calls her picturesque surroundings “a dream come true.” |
